This type is a martensitic stainless steel which is universal and easily machinable. Magnetic, hardenable with rust-resistant properties. 1.4028 stainless steel has a carbon content of 0.26-0.35 and a chromium content of 12-14%. This mix of analyses gives 1.4028 excellent corrosion resistance and exceptional wear properties after heat treatment. It outperforms 410 and 416 in most applications. 1.4028 has good formability in the annealed state but can achieve 51HRc after heat treatment. Optimal corrosion resistance is attained when 1.4028 is ground and polished after hardening.
