Product description

Austenitic stainless steel. This type of stainless steel is a titanium alloy 1.4301 and therefore possesses almost the same properties. Titanium is added in order to guarantee corrosion resistance, particularly resistance against intergranular corrosion when welded. Titanium combines with the carbon present in the steel to form titanium carbides, which prevent the formation of chrome carbides at the granular boundaries when subjected to heat. Although this grade is referred to as a “welding grade”, it can also be used without problems in applications involving prolonged exposure to temperatures of between 450 °C and 850 °C. The disadvantages of adding titanium include reduced polishability and a minor decline in formability relative to the 1.4301 grade. During machining, the titanium carbides will result in extra wear at the cutting tool tip.The applications for the material include the chemical, textile and rubber industries.
